Most communities have several sports leagues, (that’s leagues, not teams), but no children’s theater. Why is that? There’s no place where children and adolescents can sing, dance, act, and put on a show. No place where they can joyfully don costumes, hair-dos, and face paint. They have no place to try out different roles, personas, and occupations. And, finally, no place where they can practice being responsible, productive adults. So, again, I ask – why is that? Confession, I don’t know the answer. It can’t be for lack of money or lack of talented knowledgeable people. And it can’t be for lack of demand. We can only surmise it’s because people don’t know how to start and run a children’s theater. We didn’t either when we first started. The City asked us, and we put out the word, and lo and behold 78 children signed up - wanting to put on a show. Over the past few decades, we learned how, and we learned a secret. Children love to mimic, play pretend, and act. Indeed, that’s how they learn. And they love to learn that way. Children's theaters provide this opportunity.
